Organizational Growth: The new beginning.

In the last two articles we discussed the first 2 phases of a transition. In this last article in this series, our focus is on the new beginning.

New beginnings are exciting, whether it is moving to a new town, starting a new job or entering a new phase of life. When the first two phases of a transition is dealt with effectively, the new beginning will bring healthy growth and new found habits.
One aspect of new beginnings that is very important is to finish well. We can also call it, "taking all the new land". Finishing well is probably the most important part of the transition, after completing the other two phases. An organization that has gone through a transition need to "take all the new land" before the transition is truly finished. As a newly planted tree must grow into its full capacity, so an organization need to "take all the new land" before their new found growth through transition is complete. In healthy transitions new found habits are formed. Many give up before the new habits become second nature. It is at this point that many employees can easily fall back into old habits. Employees can get tired of moving forward and this leads to desiring the old way of working. This can stagger growth and nullify the entire transitional process.

The transition is only finished when the new habits have settled in and has now become the norm in the organization or individual's life.

So continue and finish well with the transitions that is ahead of you without giving up just before the finish line.
